The Formula 25 Single Seat Hovercraft
How shall we handle images??
Formula 25 is a fabulous place to begin your hovercraft adventure! Available in
a range of colours from just £5,200.00 + VAT
Formula 25 is a well-proven single seat fiberglass craft equally at home used as
a cruiser, coastal or inland racing or earning its keep at corporate events.
The design goal was to produce a light hovercraft that fulfils specific criteria:
- A safe, reliable craft suitable for a variety of uses.
- 30mph performance - making the craft, fun and exhilarating but safe for beginners.
- It must be extremely quiet and produce less than 85dBa at 25 metres
- Professional finish, good looks. Your friends must want one too!
- Easy to trailer, load and unload.
Racing Pedigree
Here at Flying Fish Hovercraft we subscribe to the idea that 'Racing improves the
breed'. Our inland craft have proved their worth by winning the 2002 National Formula
503 Championship and competed successfully at the highest level in the World Championships
- both using the Formula 25 hull. Formula 25's big brother, the 'Marlin' took an
easy win in the 2004 Coastal endurance event at Hunstanton, an outright race win
in 2005 and a third place at Ramsgate 2005. Flying Fish Hovercraft will be present
at all cruising and endurance events during 2005 - so contact us to find out where
you can see first hand the UK's leading hovercraft in action!
The Engine - making the difference:
At the heart of the machine is a 4 stroke 22bhp industrial engine, revving at just
3800rpm. Simplicity itself is the key here, we've used dozens of these ultra-reliable
engines and reliability has been almost perfect! Being four stroke and low revving
means it is very quiet, benefits from electric start and easy servicing. There's
no need for pre-mixing expensive 2-stroke fuel and the engine only consumes around
6-7 litres of fuel per hour - which works out roughly 20mpg!
Whilst our competitors persist with outdated, noisy, thirsty and unreliable 2 stroke
engines, Flying Fish are revolutionising the growing sport of hovercrafting with
the 4-stroke approach. The use of environmentally friendly, low emission 4-stroke
power is becoming necessary in many sports previously dominated by 2-strokes - Microlighting,
Snowmobiling and Motorcycle Racing are just three examples of how environmental
pressure is changing the face of motorised sport around the world. Quiet 4-stroke
hovercraft are likely to be welcomed at many more noise sensitive venues than screaming
2-strokes are.
But environmental issues aside - do you really want the hassle and safety concerns
of 2-stroke power? Do you want to be changing oiled plugs on your day out? Tracing
a persistent mis-fire or replacing burned pistons? Floating a quarter mile off shore
with a dead engine - hoping like crazy that your mobile phone has a signal? Do you
really want to be measuring out 2 stroke oil and premixing endless jerry cans? Of
course you don't! Recreational Hovercrafting should be as easy as turning the key
and enjoying the ride!
The Formula 25 is a real delight to drive - The first time you take the craft out
into its natural environment, exploring rivers, tidal gulleys and mudflats, you'll
appreciate the responsive handling, the 30mph performance and the sheer manoeuvrability
of this fun little hovercraft. It really is such an easy craft to drive that you
can get on with the adventure and you'll quickly build confidence.
Though the Formula 25 is designated as a single seat hovercraft, it easily takes
two people on land and has been used successfully over water with two lighter adults.
F25 can also be supplied with an uprated 35bhp engine, giving simply awesome performance!
Experienced drivers only, call for details! This makes F35 a truly competitive Coastal
Racer - for more details on Coastal Racing, click HERE!
The Formula 25 absolutely fulfils its design brief - it really is that good!
Controls - Simplicity Itself
Control is via simple handlebar steering with a throttle control lever, the craft
can also be specified to your own taste from a variety of options, such as flashing
beacon, headlights, navigation lights, GPS Navigation, bilge pump etc., all of which
are controlled via the instrument panel.
Hull Construction - Light & Strong
The attractive but strong GRP hull has been designed to reduce drag and lift at
high speeds and weighs a featherweight 140kgs. The hull is built in-house by our
own laminators. This means the craft is correctly laid up to strengthen load and
wear points - sub contracting the hull to a boat laminator who doesn't fully understand
hovercraft construction would have a detrimental effect on the weight of the finished
craft. The front screen gives protection for the driver. The hull is protected from
minor bumps by an aluminium bar around the outside and the double-skinned floor
has two strong keel strips for protection. All fittings used in construction are
of marine quality - designed for use in a salt-water environment. It can easily
be loaded and unloaded from its trailer in a few minutes by two people and the lightweight
construction means that performance is not hampered by carrying excessive weight.
Fan & Skirt - Revolutionary Design
The unique fan assembly is easily serviceable but extremely strong. The 5 bladed
fan gives phenomenal lift characteristics to allow the craft to operate over virtually
any surface. F25 has a flexible, segmented skirt - so any damage is localised and
quickly, easily repaired. This skirt design is a closely guarded secret and offers
a significant advantage over our competitor's craft, offering around 12 inches of
obstacle clearance. In the event of a segment needing replacement, it is a really
quick and simple job to change. The F25 is just as much at home on sand banks and
muddy beaches, light coastal seas, inland waterways and lakes, grass, ice, swamp
land or pretty much any other surface! We have successfully supplied this craft
to several entertainment companies in the UK and abroad who operate corporate days,
stag and hen weekends and 'days out'.
